The first program that I was inspired by was the Program of Hope (FCI Cumberland’s Unique Summer Camp). This program allows children to visit their incarcerated fathers where they are allowed to work on an art project together as a means of bonding. This is very important because these children will undoubtably be dealing with a degree of animosity over not having fathers (due to their incarceration). The art produced by the families are a good source of empowerment for the fathers and their children. The Secure Stages program was another awesome program. This program was created to prepare the prisoners with mental disorders with social and life skills to better equip them for reentry. The basis of the program is that the prison has a locked side and an open side. The open side is where the 12-month program is carried out and prisoners are allowed to reside in a less restricted living environment where they can learn to manage intense emotions, exhibit rational thinking and build positive relationships. I imagine that this program is sure to yield great results.
