Usage of Data Mining

In the field of computational science, there is a great correlation between Bioinformatics and data mining. There are great challenging fronts and research areas. Bioinformatics is a science, which includes mining, managing and interpretation of information which are obtained from biological structures and sequencing.

Today the explosion of information is a serious challenge for many information institutions and organisations. To face this challenge the most relevant process is to effectively utilise data mining which manages huge volumes of information. Data mining has made huge difference in the field of information science.Data can be collected; stored and compiled but effective data management is the most important challenge for many data collecting institutions.
Data warehousing also a new term, which has its own concepts. In an organisation, data warehouse represents a central repository of all information. The change in market is never constant and due to this market nature, the data warehouses have become a reality for many companies.

Elements of data mining:

  • Extraction, transformation and transaction of data onto warehousing system
  • Storage of data in multidimensional databases
  • Providing data to marketing analyst and professionals
  • Analysis of data
  • Presentation of data in right format

In big organisations where there are different departments. Each department has its own DBMS. This keeps all critical information at one place. There are different files for different roles according to skills and capabilities of employees. Like separate files for tax status, contact details, performance ratings and other official details.
If in case a personal address is updated or changed in one file, this will automatically be updated in rest of the files. This is the convenience of using DBMS.

The computerised file management systems are not considered authentic. The files in these management systems are not interlinked with each other. They are of course a useful source of information as they store data, however in case of modification all the files cannot be updated in one go. The DBMS application is supported by software like Oracle, IBM DB@, Microsoft Access or FileMaker Pro.
Data mining software is the most important analytical tool. It is used in analysing, categorisation and measuring various dimensions and angles. In simpler words data mining is finding of correlations or patterns amongst various fields.

Everybody uses information system right from the person who pays bills to the person who takes the decision of employment. Even a car dealer can use the information system to track his highest selling product in the market. The online selling portals sell product all over the web by using Information System.

Data mining commonly referred to as knowledge discovery. It is the process which involves analysing of data from different perspectives and then briefing the useful information which helps in increasing cost, revenue etc.
